Back in the saddle

Let's see if I can get back in the habit of updating this thing again. A number of things have kept me to busy or distracted to do much blogging for a while now. I did another one of my theater junkets to New York (about which I need to report). It ended with the news that my position had been eliminated at the salt mines. But they wanted me to stick around for another ten days to transfer knowledge, which kept me really busy. And since then I've been recovering from a cold, catching up on various pieces of long-deferred maintenance on my home, my car, and myself.

But now, it's time to rock! Barring any sudden change of plans, tomorrow I head out on a long road trip to see parts of the country I've never seen, visit old friends, and just generally get the heck out of Dodge for a while. I have a general plan to start: out to Seattle, down the west coast, back through the desert southwest. But I'll be improvising all along the way. I have no idea how long I'll stay on the road. At some point I'll have to decide when to return home: whether to turn left at Texas or keep going to the east coast, for instance.

Hopefully I can make the story somewhat interesting. Tune in and find out.
